Kwan Yin-yee received her B.A. in music from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Awarded the Asia-Pacific Fellowship in Ethnomusicology, she completed her master’s degree at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, where she wrote a thesis, “An untold story: the accordion in twentieth-century China”. Later, she received her master’s degree in Library and Information Science at Simmons College, Massachusetts. Her research area mainly focuses on music and politics in post-1949 China. She has presented papers at various international conferences, including the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM), and the Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM). She has also published articles in the World of Music and Chinese academic journals. She is one of the chapter contributors in 《聽賞中國音樂》The Chinese Soundscapes: Music in Chinese Cultures and Societies, written in Chinese, published by Hong Kong University Press (2019).‍
